Frequently asked questions

Everything people usually ask us before starting Pilates at Pilates House. If your question isn’t here, message us on WhatsApp and we’ll answer it ourselves.

Getting started

Do I need any experience?

No. If you’ve never done Pilates or tried the machines, you start with the Welcome Pack: three private classes to learn the basics before joining a group.

Can I do a trial class?

Yes. It’s a class of about 50 minutes within a group, so you can get to know the method, the machines and the team. We confirm the day by phone or WhatsApp.

What is the Welcome Pack?

Three private classes to learn how to breathe, place your pelvis and spine, engage your centre and use the machines safely. Then we recommend the group that suits you best.

Do I need to be flexible or fit?

No. We start from where you are; flexibility and strength come with practice.

Is there an age limit?

Our students are aged from twenty to eighty, and we adapt every exercise to your body and your moment. Under-18s are welcome too, in private classes, with a parent at the first one. Ideally they come because they want to, not because they’re made to.

Is Pilates just for women?

Not at all. The method was created by a man, Joseph Pilates, and his first students were mostly men: boxers, athletes and, later, dancers. At Pilates House men and women of all ages train with us.

Classes and timetable

How many people are there in a class?

Six at most per teacher, in groups organised by level. In the larger groups there are two teachers at once.

How long is a class?

About 50 minutes. We use the rest of the hour to clean the machines before the next group.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 9:30pm. In a group you have your own fixed times two days a week; private classes are arranged with you.

Are you open at weekends?

There are no regular classes on Saturdays, but if a group forms, we open. On Sundays we rest.

How much do classes cost?

It depends on the type of class and how many days you come, so we don’t publish prices on the website. Ask us on WhatsApp or by phone and we’ll explain, with no commitment.

What if I can’t make a class?

Cancel at least 6 hours in advance from your app and you can make up the class within the same month.

Which machines do you use?

Original classical-method machines, all by Balanced Body: five reformers, five towers and a combination Cadillac, plus the Chair, Barrel and small equipment.

Do you offer private classes?

Yes, fully one to one, with all the classical equipment and at the times that suit you best.

Health and injuries

Can I come if I have an injury or pain?

Yes. We assess your case before you start and you begin privately or with the Welcome Pack. We support your recovery, without replacing your physio or your doctor.

Can I do Pilates while pregnant?

Yes, always in private classes adapted to each trimester, before and after birth.

Does Pilates help with back pain?

Strengthening your centre and improving your posture often helps. If you have a condition, bring your physio’s or doctor’s report and we’ll work together.

Your app and your progress

What is the movement assessment?

When you start we assess how you move, and we repeat it every three months so you can see your progress in your app. It isn’t a medical diagnosis.

What is the student app for?

To book and make up classes, get notifications and see your progress and your personal guide.

Before you come

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes and a clean pair of socks. Best without zips on the back or hair clips, to look after the upholstery.

Do I need to be on time?

We recommend arriving on time so you start with the group. But if you’re a little late one day, don’t worry: we know things come up. What matters is that you come and train.

Do you have changing rooms?

Yes, there’s a changing room. There are no showers or lockers: your things stay on the coat rack and bench in the studio.

Where are you?

At Avenida de la Costa Blanca, 16, in Playa de San Juan (Alicante), about 200 metres from the sea.

Is it easy to park?

Yes, you can usually park right outside the studio.
